Population growth in south-central Hillsborough County is creating a need for more drinking water. Forecasts show that south-central Hillsborough County will need additional water by the end of 2024.
Tampa Bay Water’s new Brandon Booster Station will serve Hillsborough County’s growing water needs by sending an additional 5-7 million gallons of water per day to Hillsborough County’s Lithia Water Treatment Plant.
The Brandon Booster Station Project includes designing, permitting and building a booster station and connecting pipelines to supply additional water to Hillsborough County’s Lithia Water Treatment Plant. The unstaffed station will be an approximately 6,500-square-foot building that will house multiple pumps, an electrical room, control room, storage room and restroom. Two new 36-inch diameter pipelines will be built to connect the booster station to an existing transmission main that runs along Durant Road. Tampa Bay Water purchased property in the Brandon area of south-central Hillsborough County for the new booster station. This location is ideally situated to provide the most benefit to enhance water flows to Hillsborough County’s south-central system. The property size allows for the appropriate setbacks to ensure the facility operates discreetly to protect nearby residents’ quality of life.
Tampa Bay Water is committed to being the best neighbor possible. The Brandon Booster Station will be designed to operate in a quiet, discreet manner without affecting nearby residents:
The Brandon Booster Station will be landscaped with Florida-friendly trees and plants. This will reduce costs associated with maintaining the landscape, beautify the area and provide buffer for neighboring properties.
The Brandon Booster Station design and construction will cost approximately $19.8 million and is being paid for through Tampa Bay Water’s wholesale rate. The Southwest Florida Water Management District is funding $3.8 million of the eligible project costs.
Tampa Bay Water is committed to open, transparent communication with residents. During the design phase, Tampa Bay Water worked closely with nearby neighbors to gather feedback on the new Brandon Booster Station building appearance and landscaping; much of that feedback has been incorporated into the design so that it will blend nicely into the neighborhood. Additionally, we held a virtual public meeting Feb. 3, 2022, to share information about the Brandon Booster Station project and related road closures, including information on how to comment on the road closures to the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners.
Tampa Bay Water held a virtual community meeting on Feb. 3 to discuss the project construction and related road closures.
