Tampa Bay Water Awards $23,300 in Mini-grants

CLEARWATER, Fla. (December 12, 2016) – Tampa Bay Water announced today the winners of its source water protection mini-grants: Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, Keep Pinellas Beautiful and Florida Southern College. The mini-grants were presented by Tampa Bay Water’s board of directors at its regular board meeting.

"Our board has always maintained a strong commitment to protecting our natural resources,” said General Manager Matt Jordan. “We’re pleased to offer mini-grants to help support community and environmental groups that share our commitment."

This year, Tampa Bay Water received four applications and selected the following winners:

  • Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful will receive $10,000 for its environmental education program, including field trips and a watershed model, designed to teach students the important of putting waste in its place and how their actions can affect Tampa Bay.
  • Keep Pinellas Beautiful also will receive $10,000 to expand its watershed education program entitled “We All Live Downstream II.” The expanded program will include new curriculum and community service projects to fight against marine and terrestrial consumer-based debris in Pinellas County.
  • Florida Southern College will receive $3,300 to develop a program for biology students to teach other students about source water stewardship and connectivity between water bodies in central Florida and overall ecosystem awareness.

All mini-grant applications received were reviewed and screened against the program’s selection criteria. Funds will be granted in 2017. Since 2008, Tampa Bay Water has invested more than $170,000 in its mini-grant program to help local, community based efforts that protect our most precious resource.
