Water Projects Get State and Federal Funding
Financial, | | Return

As a non-profit, special district of the State of Florida, Tampa Bay Water is funded through the sale of water to our member governments that share the cost of developing new supplies. Any time the utility receives state or federal funding, it helps offset costs, making projects more affordable for our rate payers.

Recently, Tampa Bay Water was awarded funding through federal spending bills, which were passed and signed by the president. The Tampa Bay Water Wellfield Improvement Project received $1 million, and the Regional Surface Water Treatment Plant Expansion received $1,016,667. Many thanks to Representative Laurel Lee and Representative Gus Bilirakis, respectively, for championing these funding requests.

The Regional Surface Water Treatment Plant Expansion project received $1 million in funding during the 2023 Florida Legislative session for preliminary design activities. Another $1 million in funding for the project was passed during the 2024 session and is awaiting the governor’s signature.
