Construction Projects Keep Water on Tap
Construction, | | Return

It takes prudent planning, extensive infrastructure and meticulous maintenance to reliably provide clean, safe water to the region. At the November board meeting, Tampa Bay Water shared an update on 11 projects in various stages of construction representing $72.9 million in budgeted construction cost.

  • Cypress Bridge Wellfield Improvements improves reliability and resiliency by replacing pumps and motors at 10 wells and replaces standby generators at three wells. Completed: November 2024
  • High Service Pump Station Chemical Piping Replacement improves reliability and maintains overall water quality. Target completion: December 2024
  • Regional Reservoir Compressor Replacement maintains water quality by ensuring proper circulation within the reservoir. Target completion: December 2024
  • Desalination Plant Reverse Osmosis Trench Supports, Phase 2 improves the desal plant’s reliability and longevity by replacing the reverse osmosis racks, pressure vessels, and associated trench supports. Target completion: Three racks will be in service and producing 12 million gallons of water per day (mgd) to the region by the end of November. The final two racks will be operational by the end of December, able to deliver an additional 8 mgd.
  • Desalination Facility Intake Connection Improvements, Phase 2 restores a reliable supply of seawater with a new seawater intake tunnel connection. Target completion: May 2025
  • Cypress Creek Water Treatment Plant Chemical Piping Replacement improves the long-term reliability of the plant and maintains overall water quality. Target completion: May 2025
  • Desalination Variable Frequency Drives Replacement improves reliability by retrofitting or replacing several variable frequency drives at the facility. Target completion: February 2026
  • Eldridge-Wilde Wellfield Improvements improves reliability and resiliency by replacing pumps, motors and enclosures at 24 wells and replaces existing overhead power lines with underground and overhead power lines. Target completion: June 2026
  • Cypress Creek Lab Building Transformer Replacement improves reliability and resiliency by automatically transferring all equipment to backup power in a disruption. Target completion: Early 2026
  • IT Technology Renewal & Replacement Program improves efficiency and reliability by replacing hardware that has reached the end of its useful life at the Cypress Creek and Clearwater data centers. Target completion: Fall 2026
  • Surface Water Treatment Plant Renewal and Replacement Program, Phase 1 improves system reliability by replacing HVAC and ozone generators. Construction has not yet begun. Target completion: To be determined
