The 15.5-billion-gallon C.W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir serves as the region’s water savings account. Surface water from the Tampa Bypass Canal and Hillsborough and Alafia rivers is stored in the reservoir during wet times. During dry times, when river water is unavailable, water stored in the reservoir is withdrawn, treated and blended with other supplies to serve the region.
Reservoir compressors supply compressed air to the bottom of the reservoir to circulate water in the reservoir. This project will replace three compressors that have outlived their useful lives and add a new, fourth unit.
This project will maintain the water quality in the C.W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir by ensuring proper circulation within the reservoir. The additional compressor will improve reliability by offering redundancy to existing compressors.
The total cost is $1.34 million.
Construction began in April 2024 and is scheduled to be completed in fall 2024.
This project has no public impact as all work is contained within Tampa Bay Water property.
