Water Smarter: April is Water Conservation Month.

Water Smarter in Conservation Month

April is Water Conservation Month in Florida. It’s one of the driest months of the year. And as temperatures start to rise in the spring, so does water use.

That’s why Tampa Bay Water is kicking off its Water Smarter public awareness campaign in April. Building on last year’s efforts, the Water Smarter campaign is designed to curb outdoor water use by raising awareness of watering restrictions. On peak days, up to 50 percent of all water used during the April to early June period can be used outdoors. And with the regional reservoir out of service for renovation, conservation is even more important.

A central theme for the 2014 campaign is “Know Your Watering Days.” As watering restrictions change, residents often lose track of when they can water. To help inform residents, Tampa Bay Water has established a micro site for the Water Smartercampaign (tampabaywater.org/watersmarter) where residents find out their water days simply by typing in their zip codes.

Tampa Bay Water’s member governments are supporting the effort by distributing more than 615,000 utility bill inserts. Other campaign elements include paid media, social media and publicity.
