ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 1, 2024)- Today, Tampa Bay Water partnered with Keep Pinellas Beautiful to launch the Great American Cleanup at their Leaders Against Litter event. Community leaders and volunteers gathered on the south side of Gandy Beach to mark the beginning of Keep America Beautiful’s signature Great American Cleanup season. At the event, representatives emphasized the importance of community involvement in keeping Pinellas County beautiful. “I am proud to stand alongside Keep Pinellas Beautiful in this crucial initiative,” said St. Petersburg Council Member and Tampa Bay Water Vice-Chair Lisett Hanewicz. “By coming together as leaders against litter, we can make a tangible difference in the cleanliness and beauty of our community.”

“Leaders Against Litter is a time for us to unite and take action against litter,” said Keep Pinellas Beautiful Executive Director Patricia DePlasco. “With the support of Tampa Bay Water, our other community partners, and dedicated volunteers, we are confident that we can create a cleaner environment for generations to come.”

In addition to the cleanup activities, Tampa Bay Water reaffirmed its commitment to supporting water conservation efforts amidst the ongoing drought conditions affecting the region.

“As we face challenges such as drought, it becomes increasingly important for us to prioritize water conservation and education,” added Council Member Hanewicz. “We are dedicated to working alongside our community partners like Keep Pinellas Beautiful to ensure a sustainable future for Pinellas County.”

Attendees made a public commitment by pledging to speak up and spread the word that litter is not acceptable in Pinellas County. Pick up litter whenever you see it. Stand up and lead the way for a litter-free Pinellas County.
