CLEARWATER, Fla. (Oct. 23, 2019) – Most Americans turn on the tap for clean, safe drinking water each day without a second thought about what happens to get it there.

Today, Tampa Bay Water joins elected officials, water utilities, community leaders, educators, and businesses from across the country as part of the fifth annual Imagine a Day Without Water, a nationwide day of education and advocacy about the value of water. Led by the Value of Water Campaign, more than a thousand organizations across the country will raise awareness about not taking water for granted and the crucial need to invest in our nation’s water systems.

Earlier this week, Tampa Bay Water’s board of directors adopted a proclamation to recognize that water is essential to the quality of life and economic prosperity and acknowledge the importance of educating the public about the value of water through the Imagine a Day Without Water campaign.

The proclamation also affirms Tampa Bay Water’s dedication to investing in clean, safe and reliable water infrastructure and calls on federal and state partners to bring funding and innovation to protect our critical water infrastructure.

While the Tampa Bay region enjoys a reliable drinking water supply today, work is ongoing to secure our water future. Tampa Bay Water continually plans for the future and has built a water system that is resilient to drought, climate variability and population growth.

Tampa Bay Water joins Imagine a Day Without Water to draw attention to the challenges that face our regional water supply, and the solutions Tampa Bay Water employs to address these challenges.

“Water is the essence of life,” said Hillsborough County Commissioner and Tampa Bay Water chairman, Sandra Murman. “The proclamation showcases Tampa Bay Water’s dedication to providing a reliable supply of clean, safe water to the Tampa Bay region now and for future generations.”

“We're thrilled that Tampa Bay Water and its board of directors is a part of Imagine a Day Without Water. This national day of action educates our neighbors and public officials about the essential role water plays in all our lives,” said Radhika Fox, chief executive officer of the U.S. Water Alliance and director of the Value of Water Campaign.

Imagine a Day Without Water is an opportunity for diverse organizations, from environmental advocates to private businesses, to water utilities, to talk about why water is important to them. Over the past five years, it has provided a platform for educating the public and advocating for leaders to prioritize investing in water today, so the future is one where no American will have to imagine a day without water.
