Telephone Town Halls Offer Opportunities to Provide Feedback on New Projects

Tampa Bay Water has two options under consideration to supply more water to the region by 2028: expanding surface water capacity or expanding the seawater desalination plant.

The Surface Water Treatment Expansion project could provide an additional 10-20 million gallons of water per day (mgd) to the region by either expanding the existing Tampa Bay Regional Surface Water Treatment Plant in Brandon, Fla., or building a second surface water treatment plant on the C.W. Bill Young Regional Reservoir property in southern Hillsborough County.

The Tampa Bay Seawater Desalination Plant Expansion project could provide up to 10.4 mgd more water to the region by expanding the desalination plant co-located with the Big Bend Power Plant in Apollo Beach, Fla.

The top-ranked option will go before Tampa Bay Water’s board in August 2022 for a decision by December 2022. Residents can learn more about these options and provide feedback in one of two telephone town hall meetings in July. The Hillsborough County Telephone Town Hall is July 12 and will also discuss the top routes for the new South Hillsborough Pipeline. The Pasco/Pinellas County Telephone Town Hall is July 19. You can sign up for your respective county meeting here.
