Tampa Bay Water Changes Treatment Process During Liquid Oxygen Shortage

Since Aug. 26, Tampa Bay Water has temporarily changed the water treatment process at its Lithia Hydrogen Sulfide Removal Facility due to a lack of liquid oxygen deliveries, which have been diverted to hospitals to respond to COVID-19 cases.

Both the City of Tampa and Tampa Bay Water submitted Safe Drinking Water Act Section 1441 applications to the Environmental Protection Agency, which will help prioritize deliveries to public water utilities after the hospitals. Tampa Bay Water has seen increased deliveries over the past few weeks but is waiting to switch back to liquid oxygen for our treatment process at Lithia until we can be confident deliveries will be uninterrupted.
