A contractor hit one of the City of Tampa’s 36-inch potable water transmission mains outside the David L. Tippin Water Treatment Facility Dec. 7, depleting the supplies from the plant and flooding streets in the area before the water could be shut off.
Tampa Bay Water quickly initiated the Morris Bridge point of connection (and were prepared to open the U.S. 301 Interconnect) and assisted by delivering water to Tampa so that residents, businesses and hospitals could continue to function.
“I’m glad Tampa Bay Water was able to act so quickly,” St. Petersburg City Council member Darden Rice said at Tampa Bay Water’s Dec. 14 board meeting. “It is an example of why Tampa Bay Water’s regional approach works. It shows why Tampa Bay Water is a profound insurance policy for the City of Tampa and it’s really just a great example to see how Tampa Bay Water is meant to work.”
