The project to expand the Tampa Bay Regional Surface Water Treatment Plant will increase the region’s water supply capacity by 10-12.5 million gallons of water per day (mgd) when completed at the end of 2028. In November, Tampa Bay Water’s board of directors approved a $14.9 million early equipment procurement package to obtain long-lead items. The utility’s direct purchase of five of these items will save approximately $700,000 in sales tax.
Also in November, the board awarded a $1.7 million contract to Electrical Engineering Enterprises to upgrade and replace variable frequency drives for the Cypress Creek Pump Station. Variable frequency drives are used to change pump motor speeds, flow and efficiency. The project will improve pump station reliability and decrease facility downtime.
