At its December meeting, Tampa Bay Water’s board of directors approved a small route deviation for the new South Hillsborough Pipeline Segment A made possible through purchasing property from willing sellers along the Alafia River.
In September 2022, Tampa Bay Water’s board of directors selected the “blue” route for Segment A of the South Hillsborough Pipeline at the request of Hillsborough County. This segment connects the Regional Surface Water Treatment Plant to Hillsborough’s County Lithia Water Treatment Facility and requires crossing the Alafia River.
The alternative river crossing costs $2 million less, is shorter and has less public inconvenience than the original river crossing.
