Clearwater, Fla. (June 19, 2013) – Don’t wait any longer! If your yard incorporates Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ principles with attractive design, it might have what it takes to win. The deadline is quickly approaching to enter the Tampa Bay Community Water-Wise Awards so apply today. The application is online at tampabaywaterwise.org and must be received by June 30, 2013.

If you are a resident, business, builder or other organization in Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties as well as the cities of Tampa, St. Petersburg and New Port Richey, you are eligible to apply.

It’s easy; just provide a brief description and photos of your water-efficient landscape to be considered for an award. Each landscape entry will be evaluated and scored on-site by a local Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ representative during regular business hours in July; applicants need not be present for this evaluation.

Winning landscapes will balance attractive design with Florida-friendly plants and landscape elements, as well as water-efficient irrigation techniques that have a positive impact on our environment.

“Some of the benefits of a Florida-Friendly landscape are a sense of place, reduced consumption of resources, and helping to maintain our resources,” says Bruce Turley, professional landscape designer.

Winners receive a custom 2013 Water-Wise landscape stepping stone during an award ceremony presented by county commissioners, city council members or even mayors within their local government.

To hear why some of the past Community Water-Wise Award winners implemented their water-wise landscapes, visit Tampa Bay Water’s Water-Wise video series on YouTube at www.youtube.com/tampabaywater. The series showcases past winners’ experiences with the Water-Wise program, including information about their personal landscaping practices, irrigation techniques and what it means to be Water-Wise.

If your yard combines elements of beauty, creativity and water efficiency, don’t wait until the deadline, apply today at tampabaywaterwise.org.
