CLEARWATER, Fla. (May 7, 2019) — Tampa Bay Water’s 2019 Fiscal Year Budget was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This marks the tenth consecutive year that the agency has been given this notable honor.

The Distinguished Budget Presentation reinforces Tampa Bay Water’s commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. Tampa Bay Water was recognized for how well its budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device. Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and in the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

“We strive to make our budget process as transparent as possible,” said Christina Sackett, Tampa Bay Water’s chief financial officer. “It’s important that our members and their citizens know how the shared, public investment provides the Tampa Bay area with clean, safe and reliable drinking water.”

Participating in the GFOA program helps Tampa Bay Water ensure open communications with its member governments and stakeholders regarding its budget. Other benefits of this honor include, staying informed with the latest trends in certification, and meeting the agency vision to: be a model for regional water supply in the nation; be a leader in innovation and best practices; and be a respected member of the Tampa Bay community.
