CLEARWATER, Fla. (Oct. 3, 2018) — Tampa Bay Water has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2017 comprehensive annual financial report.

The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“We strive to be transparent in how we handle the public’s investment in their drinking water infrastructure,” said Christina Sackett, Tampa Bay Water’s chief financial officer. “It’s our duty to provide our member governments and their citizens with the financial information they need to know that their hard-earned money is responsibly managed.”

The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure, and recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.

Participating in the GFOA helps Tampa Bay Water maintain its place as a respected member of the Tampa Bay community by ensuring transparent communications with its member governments and stakeholders regarding financial accountability.
