CLEARWATER, Fla. (March 7, 2018) — Tampa Bay Water, continuing a 20-year tradition, kicked off a statewide effort to declare April as Water Conservation Month. The agency’s board of directors adopted the proclamation to promote water conservation during Florida’s driest month of the year.
The effort is coordinated through the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association Water Use Efficiency Division to create awareness through conservation programs, festivals, workshops, educational events and more that focus on water use efficiency.
In the coming months, Tampa Bay Water will work with its member governments, Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties, and the cities of New Port Richey, St. Petersburg and Tampa to make the same proclamations and help the public conserve our most precious resource.
“Collaboration between governments and residents is integral for a successful Water Conservation Month,” said Dave Bracciano, demand management coordinator for Tampa Bay Water.
The State of Florida and up to 200 utilities and governments throughout Florida will adopt April as Water Conservation Month this spring.
The highest potential for water savings is outdoors between March and early June when Florida’s temperatures increase and the state’s rainfall is low. Consequently, many residents and businesses use more water on their landscapes.
Residents and businesses can save water outdoors this spring by following these simple tips:
