Initial Contracts Approved for Hillsborough County Pipeline

One important piece of the long-term solution for water needs in southern Hillsborough County is Tampa Bay Water’s new pipeline project. The new 60-inch diameter Hillsborough County Pipeline includes two segments:

  • Segment A:  Will deliver up to 65 million gallons per day of water from Tampa Bay Water’s regional system to the Lithia Water Treatment Plant
  • Segment B:  A Hillsborough County funded segment to a new point of connection in the Balm area

Tampa Bay Water’s board approved at its August meeting the contracts and initial tasks for both pipeline segments. The contracts with Wade Trim (Segment A) and Stantec (Segment B) include funding for collecting preliminary design data, coordinating route evaluation criteria development, route studies, basis of design reports, researching and identifying property acquisition needs, public engagement and coordinating with the Southwest Florida Water Management District and Hillsborough County.

Pipeline segments A and B are scheduled to begin construction in 2026 and be operational in 2028. Tampa Bay Water has applied and received approval from the District for 50% of eligible costs for both pipelines.
