State Co-Funds Surface Water Improvements Project

Tampa Bay Water’s Cypress Creek Wellfield Surface Water Improvements project was approved for $432,500 in state funding as part of the 2014 state budget. The state funding represents 50 percent of the construction costs to make drainage modifications at the Cypress Creek Wellfield.

The project builds on earlier efforts to successfully re-route excess surface water on the wellfield property to rehydrate wetlands and enhance the shallow aquifer. Five wetlands on the property will benefit from the newly planned enhancements to the surface water management system. Additionally, the project has the potential to alleviate some nuisance flooding in adjacent subdivisions.

The project started in 2004 with a feasibility study that evaluated potential drainage modifications and determined the project was viable. The first phase of the project was completed in 2007 and has proven successful.

This phase of the project builds on the previous efforts. The total project cost is approximately $1,000,000 for design, permitting and construction. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2015.
