Mitigation of Impacts

Emergency pumping from Morris Bridge Sink during the drought of 2000 and 2001 impacted some private wells in the immediate vicinity of the sink. These wells have been repaired or replaced at Tampa Bay Water’s expense with wells designed to produce under the most extreme conditions.

Identification of at-risk wells

As part of the development of the Morris Bridge Sink project, Tampa Bay Water will thoroughly inventory domestic wells in the area. Repair or replacement will be initiated on at-risk wells before permanent pumping facilities are completed.

Public utility water service

Another potential mitigation option is to extend public utility water service to the area before the withdrawal facilities at Morris Bridge Sink are completed.

What happens if my well is still impacted from the sink pumping?

Permit conditions may specify mitigation requirements for this project. If the permit does not specify and if a private well in the vicinity of the sink experiences pumping-related impacts, that well would be eligible for Tampa Bay Water’s Good Neighbor Program.
