Background

The Carrollwood wells have been in service for decades, located on residential lots within the Carrollwood neighborhood and have a combined permitted pumping capacity of 820,000 gallons per day. Hillsborough County and Tampa Bay Water have negotiated over several years with FGUA to acquire its facilities. At its February 2004 meeting, Tampa Bay Water's Board of Directors approved an agreement to purchase the wells from the FGUA. The agreement was completed on March 30, 2004, at which time Tampa Bay Water became the owner of the three production wells, the water use permit and the land on which the wells reside. This project will collect the permitted capacity of the wells and transport it to Hillsborough County's water treatment plants to ensure adequate supplies continue to be available for the former FGUA service area.
