background and process
Background
The Long-Term Water Supply Plan is a comprehensive listing of all potential
water supply sources in our region. All potential projects went through a
process of public input and an extensive evaluation and review process.
Projects were then shortlisted into our Master Water Plan to be approved by our
board of directors and studied further by Tampa Bay Water.
Tampa Bay Water’s Long-Term Plan and Master Water Plan are required to be updated every five years. The process began when Tampa Bay Water was formed in 1998 and the board approved System Configuration I of the Master Water Plan, which included projects that formed the diversified water supply system we use today.
The first update of the Plans occurred in 2003. In 2006, the board approved an expansion of the Tampa Bay Regional Surface Water Treatment Plant for additional surface water supply. Most recently, the agency’s board members approved the Long-Term Plan 2008 update, which included seven Master Water Plan projects. As studies began on those projects, two were combined and six project concepts are moving forward for further study.
