Costs for Environmental Restoration
Since 1999, Tampa Bay Water has spent approximately $1.2 million on scientific studies related to environmental restoration. Estimated capital costs of the current eight restoration projects total more than $10 million.
Environmental restoration projects will be primarily funded through the Tampa Bay Water wholesale water rate. Tampa Bay Water anticipates budgeting approximately $700,000 per year for environmental restoration projects.
Additional funding will be sought from outside agencies, such as grants from SWFWMD and the Environmental Protection Agency. To date, SWFWMD and its local Basin Boards have allocated $1.5 million towards Tampa Bay Water environmental restoration projects. The Environmental Protection Agency has provided $841,000 for the Section 21 Wellfield Restoration Project.
