Current Environmental Restoration Projects
Tampa Bay Water is required to submit proposed projects to the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD)for approval. To date, Tampa Bay Water has submitted and SWFWMD has approved nine projects. SWFWMD approval is conceptual only and does not imply approval of any necessary permits.
The nine initial projects are located on or near the wellfields, since these areas have more severe impacts and are more likely to require longer-term mitigaton. SWFWMD has discouraged groundwater augmentation as a restoration option; only one of the nine projects relies on groundwater.
Together, these nine initial projects will restore up to 80 lakes and wetlands totaling up to1,500 acres. These environmental restoration projects will provide significant environmental benefits to the tri-county area.
