Washing Machine

The easiest way to conserve water in the laundry room is to use the correct level of water for the size of the load you are washing. Standard washing machines use an average of approximately 40 gallons of water per load. The new, high-efficiency washing machines use between 35 and 50 percent less water than conventional washers, while saving energy and reducing drying time.

A centrally located water heater can help cut water use. A re-circulating hot water system allows hot water to be distributed from the heating source through a hot water pipe that returns to the hot water heater via a third water return line. If you are having a new home built make sure all hot water lines are insulated to reduce warm-up run times.
