Tampa Bay Water Chief Operating Officer Chuck Carden has been named the agency’s interim general manager.

At its Dec. 14, 2020, meeting, Tampa Bay Water’s board of directors voted 7-2 to dismiss General Manager Matt Jordan without cause. Jordan had been on administrative leave after the agency’s Oct. 26 board meeting, pending a third-party investigation in response to issues raised in an anonymous letter and email. Brown Law & Consulting, PLLC, handled the investigation and the results were presented to each board member prior to the Dec. 14 board meeting.

"This board has to keep a keen eye on the future," said Chairman Dave Eggers. "We need a unified staff and strong leadership to meet the challenges facing our regional utility."

Carden, a 27-year employee of the utility, has been serving as the agency’s acting general manager since October. The board named him interim general manager at its December meeting. Carden will serve as both interim general manager and chief operating officer while a formal search for a new general manager is conducted and a replacement is found.
